ChatGPT Desktop App for Windows Now Available to Everyone

Last month, OpenAI launched the official ChatGPT desktop app for Windows, but it was exclusive to paid users. Today, we’re excited to share that OpenAI has now opened access to all ChatGPT users on Windows. This means you no longer need a paid subscription to enjoy the convenience of the ChatGPT desktop app on Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices.

How to Download and Install

Here’s how you can get started with the ChatGPT desktop app:

  1. Download the Installer: Click here to download the ChatGPT app for Windows.
  2. Install the App: Run the downloaded file and follow the setup instructions.
  3. Log In: Use your OpenAI credentials to access the app, whether you’re a free-tier user or a Plus subscriber.

What’s New in the ChatGPT Windows App?

In addition to expanding access, OpenAI has introduced several exciting features that make the desktop experience even better:

1. Screenshot and Ask Questions Instantly

The app now includes a built-in screenshot tool. Simply click the paperclip icon to capture your screen and quickly ask questions related to the screenshot. This feature is perfect for resolving issues, sharing context, or getting help on visual problems.

2. Customizable Shortcuts

Previously, users reported issues with the default “Alt + Space” shortcut conflicting with apps like PowerToys. OpenAI has listened to feedback, and you can now customize the shortcut to launch ChatGPT’s companion window. This ensures a smoother and conflict-free workflow.

3. Advanced Voice Mode

OpenAI has also rolled out Advanced Voice Mode on the desktop app, allowing users to engage in natural, conversational interactions with ChatGPT. Whether you're multitasking or prefer speaking over typing, this feature enhances accessibility and ease of use.
